Thunder and Lightning
“ Boom Boom”, roared the thunder. The rain slowly fell onto my head. It was like a faucet that wasn’t turned off all the way that was dripping. It sounded as if a jet flew over my head going faster than the speed of sound. The rain trickled down slowly as a drizzle. Then, as it came down, it was going faster and faster until it wasn’t a drizzle anymore. It was raining hard. The droplets in the bay from the rain looked like little tiny teardrops, falling and making ripples on the surface.
I was at my grandfather’s and grandmother’s beach house for two weeks. I always had fun their. My grandfather owns a boat and we take rides on it in the summer. “Noooooo”, I yelled. “It’s raining cats and dogs,” I said. Today was supposed to be the perfect day, but it is all ruined because it’s raining. We were supposed to go on the boat for a nice quick ride. Then we were supposed to go on the beach in the afternoon. Then lastly we were supposed to go on the boardwalk to ride some rides and eat some junk food.
“ We are going to have to turn back and go home.” My uncle said.
I then said. “Why” I asked, “Why can’t we keep going? Why do we have to go home. Today is ruined.” My grandfather then gave me a whole scientific explanation on why you can’t drive a boat in water when it is thundering and lightning. I started to cry. I was very upset, tired and annoyed. No one was even able to tell that I was crying because of all of the rain. I felt almost like I was invisible. I had a never ending waterfall trickling down my face. Earlier today my grandmother was going on and on about how today was such a beautiful day and how it didn’t even look like it would rain. She jinxed it again. She does this a lot, this was not her first time. Before I knew it, we were at the slip. My mom helped me get out of the boat and I felt like a baby.
Once I calmed down, I had fun that day playing cards and going to an arcade. It turned out to actually be a kind of ok day, even though it started out really rough. I planned the whole day out and I didn’t realize that something could go wrong. I counted my eggs before they hatched. So this just goes to show you that you can even find sunshine even in rain.
